Giselle was first performed in Paris , France in June 1841.

It is based on a libretto by Gautier and Jules-Henri Vernoy de Saint-Georges with music by Adolphe Adam.

Original choreography is by Jules Perrot and Jean Coralli.  This choreography was revised by Marius Petipa for the Russian Imperial Ballet later in the 1800s.

Giselle is widely considered to be the most important of the ballets created during the "Romantic Era" of dance and arts in general.
